Long time no post!

This year I promise I will post more. I've been really slacking in the posting department! Work has kept me really busy and it's been hard to do stuff on my own time. But lately, I've been trying a new style that I'm really enjoying. Usually my tool of choice is photoshop, but I've been trying to push myself to create new things in Adobe illustrator. It's very challenging but i'm really liking how it challenges me to think in a completely different way. Anyways, enough talk. Pics!

Birdie Mae

Lily (in progress)

Lil' Bub, my favorite internet cat

Quail
(this was the first piece in this "style" that I did)

Please keep in mind that these are in progress-i'm not quite sure how i'm going to treat the background of these. I've been thinking they'd be really cool printed on wood or fabric for pillows-but I welcome any ideas!

This year i'm planning on really getting my website/portfolio whipped into shape. I'll be sure to keep posting along the way! Pinky swear.

If you're interested in prints of my work or would like to request a custom pet portrait, please feel free to contact me at lindsay.vandeweghe@gmail.com!

Until next time-

A random update of things that I've painted in the past month. I've been really into trying to mimic watercolor digitally...it's tough!!!

color and composition

Still working at trying to better my skills in composition and color. It's something I struggle with, but hopefully the practice will pay off! Here is a piece that I've just done. Enjoy!

Hello, my dear friends!

It's been too long since i've posted. Things have been busy-new job, holiday shopping, etc. No excuse, I know. Here are a few things I've done:

Yes, I agree. Kind of a strange assortment. I've been posting more to my facebook illustration fan page. Feel free to "like" me on facebook so you can get the latest things as I'm posting them.

Happy Holidays to all!

New Art Adventure: DOTD

Hello, my dearest friends.

As many of you may know, it's now been 2 whole years since graduating from the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. In that time, i've been very lucky-I have a stable 9 to 5 (or 6...or 7) job that, despite my grumblings, IS a creative job. Anyways.

Despite it being "creative", It is not what I went to school for, and not where my passions lie. I still love illustration, and i've been in such a weird place for the past 2 years-I haven't done hardly any illustrating, drawing, sculpting...all the things I spent 2 solid years doing in school.

NO MORE.

starting TODAY, May 6th, 2012, I will do a drawing a day. I'm calling this new adventure Drawing Of The Day (DOTD). Here's how it works: yesterday, my mom and I sat down at the kitchen table and wrote on little slips of paper nouns, verbs and adjectives. We then separated them into 3 different envelopes. Each day, I will draw a word from the NOUN envelope, and one from the VERB envelope (and one from the adjective envelope if i'm feeling especially...illustrate-y). This will be great, because one of the things i've been struggling with is lack of ideas of things to draw. This will also be great in forcing me to adapt to different illustration "jobs".

anyways, you get the drift. Enough talk!! Here's the first DOTD.

NOUN: Gerbil
Verb: on the Beach

Enjoy. I certainly did. I'm on a drawing high.

Thanks for everyone's support.

Been a while.

I have a job for you. A Steve Jobs, that is. har har. cheesy.

Anyways, i've been quite busy lately. But, I decided to take advantage of my after hours time at work and experiment with CS5 new painter options. This is what I came out with:

Oona is finished!

Well, I still have to complete the base and make the first place ribbon, but the big part is done. I'm really happy with the way she turned out. While I find the painting process is my least favorite part of everything, It feels really good once I'm all done and I'm happy with how the paint job turned out.

Ok, enough talk. Pictures!

Process-start to finish. Notice all the changes I made along the way to the head shape. It's a slow process sometimes, and especially when you're basing the sculpture off of a very specific drawing.

final!

If you don't remember, I did a little "keep me sharp" exercise where I drew a picture of a sculpture, then sculpted the sculpture based off of my drawing, trying to keep it as close as possible. Very fun and very challenging!
